How to time sync a DX4500/4600 recorder to a time server.

Cause

Sync the internal time of the DX4500/DX4600 Series recorder with a NTP server.

Resolution

The DX4500/DX4600 must be turned on, connected to a network, and you must be logged on at the administrator level to configure network software settings. You must restart the DVR for any network configuration changes to take effect. Be sure you are not recording video that cannot be interrupted before you change the network settings.

  1. On the front panel or remote control, press the up/down arrow buttons to highlight the System menu option. Using the mouse, click system menu options. The System options are displayed.
     
  2. Click on NTP. NTP options are displayed.
     
  3. Enable the NTP feature.
    • On the front panel or remote control, press ENTER twice. Using the mouse, click the NTP settings box. The NTP settings box changes color.
    • Press the left/right arrow buttons on the front panel or remote control to display ON. Using the mouse, click the NTP settings box.
     
  4. Select the type of NTP server.
    • On the front panel or remote control:
    (1) Press ENTER.
    (2) Press the up/down arrow buttons to highlight Server, and then press ENTER.
    • Using the mouse, click the Server settings box.

    The setting box changes color.
    a. On the front panel or remote control, press the left/right arrow buttons to display the desired NPT server. Using the mouse, click the settings box.
    b. Press ENTER on the front panel or remote control. Using the mouse, click Server. The setting box changes color.
     
  5. Set the synchronization interval.
    a. On the front panel or remote control, press the up/down arrow buttons to highlight Sync. Interval and press ENTER. Using the mouse, click the settings box. The settings box changes color.
    b. On the front panel or remote control, press the left/right arrow buttons to display a synchronization interval. Using the mouse, click the settings box.
    c. Press ENTER on the front panel or remote control. Using the mouse, click Sync. Interval. The setting box changes color.
     
  6. Verify that the DVR is synchronized with the NTP.
    a. On the front panel or remote control, press the up/down arrow buttons to highlight NTP Test and press ENTER. Using the mouse, click the settings box. The “NTP server accessed successfully.” dialog box is displayed.
    b. On the front panel or remote control, press ENTER. Using the mouse, click OK.
     
  7. Save the changes.
    a. Do one of the following:
    • On the front panel, press the MENU/ESC button or press the MENU/ESC button on the remote control until the “Configuration data is changed. Save the new settings message?” dialog box is displayed.
    • Using the mouse, click Exit. “The Configuration data is changed. Save the new settings?” dialog box is displayed.

    b. On the front panel or remote control, press the left/right arrow buttons to highlight OK, and then press ENTER. Using the mouse, click OK. The changes are saved and the Live View mode is displayed.

 

NOTE:
The default setting is PUBLIC SERVER.  In thise case the DVR averages the time of five public servers:

  • rime.nist.gov
  • time-a.nist.gov
  • timeb.nist.gov
  • ntp.nasa.gov
  • clock.isc.org
