Why are Digital Sentry camera video streams blank (black) in DS Control Point, Digital Sentry Client, and DS Admin?

Cause

This is often because the Microsoft Windows® Network Binding Order is not set properly, preventing video packets from being properly routed to the server.

Resolution

To resolve this, follow these steps on the Digital Sentry Server (DVR/NVR):

Note: The below steps and screenshots reference a Microsoft Windows® XP Server, however the steps are very similar amongst all supported Microsoft Windows versions. Please refer to official Microsoft Windows® Operating System Documentation if needed.

  1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
  2. Click Network and Internet Connections.
  3. Click Network Connections.
  4. On the Advanced menu, click Advanced Settings.
  5. In the Connections: box, use the arrow buttons along the right to move the Primary Network Adapter to the top of the list. The Primary Network Adapter is the one which owns the IP address that is used and can be found within DS Admin or DS Quicksetup.
  6. Click OKIf you are prompted to restart, click Yes.
     

NOTE: In some cases the value for Automatic metric needs to be set to 1. Follow the next seven steps to change this value.
 

  1. Open Local Area Connection properties.
     
  2. Select Internet Protocol 4 (TCP/IPv4).
     
  3. Click on Properties
     
  4. In the General tab, click the Advance... button
     
  5. Remove the checked from Automatic metric and set the value to 1.


     
  6. Click the OK button
     
  7. Ping the server name again and verify it does repplies back with Local Area connection 1 IP Address.
