Sarix cameras will not sync time up with Windows native NTP server

Issue

Sarix cameras will not keep time when set up for the Windows native NTP server that is built into Windows.

Product Line

Pelco Cameras

Environment

  • When using the simple Windows native NTP server that is in Windows server.
  • 1.8.2 Sarix versions for cameras

Cause

A NTP server must provide high clock precision for Sarix cameras to sync with the server. A Windows' native NTP server application does not provide high clock precision, and will not sync with the camera.

Resolution

If using a Windows-based NTP server, use a third-party application to manage your NTP server.

Sarix cameras have been tested to work with Meinberg NTP, a third party NTP server application for Windows.

If using a Windows-based NTP server, the Windows firewall (if enabled) must be configured to allow communication over port 123.

Pelco Recommends using NIST.GOV
