Using Device Utility 2 (DU2) with Windows 7, 64 bit OS platform.

Unable to upgrade cameras using DU2 on a Windows 7, 64 bit OS platform.

Product Line

Pelco Cameras

  • Sarix Cameras
  • Windows 7 64 bit
  • Device Utility 2 (DU2)

Device Utility 2 does not support installation path with special characters like ")".

Default folder where DU2 is installed on a 64bit system is “C:\Program Files (x86)\Pelco\Device Utility 2”. When DU2 provides a path for the firmware file to the camera to pull over HTTP, that path includes “..\Program Files (x86)\...”. As deimos run’s the fwupdate script with the URL that has this path for the firmware file, it fails as there is a special character “(” in that path.

Users might end up getting an error message as :

"Error in communicating with the device. Please retry or reset the device since ..."

To Resolve this issue, follow these steps.

  1. Copy “Device Utility 2” folder from “C:\Program Files (x86)\Pelco\” to another location where the path would not have special character (i.e. “C:\Device Utility 2” or “C:\Pelco\Device Utility 2”)
  2. Go to the newly copied “…\Device Utility 2” folder and execute DeviceUtility2 application.
  3. If Window Firewall is enabled and it does not prompt you about DeviceUtility2 trying to establish network connections then you will need to make sure Firewall is configured correctly to allow DeviceUtility2 to establish network connections.
  4. If Window Firewall prompts you asking permission for DeviceUtility2 to establish network connections then set allow permission for all appropriate networks.
