How to calculate the power consumption in different units?


  1. There is a tool that used to help with instances like this; it is called Convert.exe. could be found here : http://wscope.com/convert.htm
  2. Once the tool has been downloaded, The Tools menu option is across the top of the page just under the “Planet” in Pelco Planet as the title of the page.
  3. When you open Convert. Exe., you would be using the Power tab to convert Watt (Input) to BTU/hour (Output). The choice for BTU/Hour is the nearest option available in this instance.
  4. Now, with this said, and since VA are essentially the same as W ( they are NOT identical, but since Pelco designs to near unison between True Power and Apparent Power, the conversion for VA to W is close to 1:1).
  5. If you do not want to follow this route, you can covert the VA to W through here: http://www.rapidtables.com/convert/electric/va-to-watt.htm as this link directs you to the math that is actually used for the conversion.
  6. To bring this full circle, the Spec Sheet for the WCS4-20B shows the input being either 120 or 240 VAC with an Amperage rating of 2.30A. This means that we would do the math like this:

    P=IV (Power = Current in Amps * Volts) or, P = 2.30A* 120VAC. This has a power rating of 276W. We then take this to Convert.exe and place the 276W in the Power tab for the conversion INPUT and then choose the BTU/hour option in the Output option. Once you place the number of 276 in the text box for the input, you automatically get the output of 942.5894BTU.

    You would then get a BTU/hour rating for the WCS4-20B of 942.5894BTU.
