Resolution

In order to record video to the DSSRV / DSSRV2 a new drive must first be formatted through Windows. This can be done on the DSSRV / DSSRV2  by following these steps:

  1. Place the hard drives into the DSSRV / DSSRV2  while it is powered down.
  2. Go to Start.
  3. Right Click on Computer.
  4. Select Manage.
  5. Select Disk Management.
  6. In the drive initialization keep the default settings.

Note: If the drive initialization wizard does not popup automatically, in Disk Management, locate the new Disk # in the bottom right window where it is listed as "Unknown, Not Initialized".  Right-click and select "Initialize Disk" to open the drive initialization wizard.

  7. Make sure Partition Style set to GPT.

    Note:
If you see two unallocated partitions, right click on the Disk X and select convert to GPT. This will allow the full hard drive to be one unallocated partition.

  8. Once the drive initialization is complete, right-click in the unallocated space and select New Simple Volume...
  9. This will open the volume wizard, click Next
  10. Verify all disk space is selected and click Next
  11. Now you can either leave the drive letter default or change depending on your preference and then select Next
  12. Verify "Format this volume" is selected with NTFS, leave Allocation Unit Size: Default, enter a Volume label: if needed, check Perform a Quick Format and then click Next.
  13. Click Finish
  14. Once the status of the new partition shows Healthy, exit Disk Management.
  15. Go to Start > Computer and verify the new drive letter is listed and available.
  16. Reboot the DSSRV (Start > Shutdown > Restart).
  17. Once the DSSRV is up, Open DS Admin.
  18. Select the VAU Computer Name
  19. Select the "Storage Locations" TAB
  20. Select the new added hard drive
  21. Put a check mark next to "Activate Storage Location"
  22. Click Save.
  23. Re-start Digital Sentry Storage Service
  24. Verify a new folder with the current month and date gets created in the new Storage drive(s)
