DSSRV units with 3 or 4 ENC5416s attached may randomly lockup. The system may become less responsive, or the user may have no control over the unit; moving the mouse may not move the cursor on the screen; and/or pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del may not produce any results. In such circumstances, the unit will require a hard reset to get out of lockup. This issue is only seen on DSSRV units that have 3 or 4 ENC5416s. If the ENC5400-PORT is now being used, or is planned for use with 3 or 4 ENC5416s, these changes should be applied to prevent disrupted use of the DSSRV.
Pelco Video Management
- Digital Sentry DSSRV Versions 7.4.320 or older
- ENC5416 2.5.3 and lower
This is a requirement for running three or more ENC5416s without lockups occurring.
Remedying the lock up issue requires multiple steps. A new
Note: If the DSSRV has a DSSRV-RAID card installed, the slot position of the RAID card will also need to be changed – the RAID card needs to be moved to the PCIe x4 slot to accommodate the move of the ENC5400-4PORT from PCIe x4 to PCIe x16.
TOOLS AND MATERIALS REQUIRED
- ESD safe environment
- ESD wrist strap*
- Phillips screwdriver
- Monitor with VGA or DVI-D output and cable
- USB 2.0 Keyboard and Mouse (provided with DSSRV)
- DSInstaller 7.4.320 or newer or 7.4.320 Image recovery
- 8 GB flash drive for recovery
- 110V or 220V power source
- New ENC5400-4PORT ribbon cable*
New ENC5400-4PORT data cable*
* Items included with ENC5400-CBUPKIT
These Field Update Kit Instructions cover:
- Removal and replacement of the ribbon cable from the ENC5400 main card to the daughter card
- Removal and replacement of the data cables (the cable from ENC5416 to the DSSRV)
- Slot change for the ENC5400-4PORT from PCIe x4 to PCIe x16
- Updating the ENC5416 driver to version 2.5.4 on the DSSRV
Note: If the DSSRV has a DSSRV-RAID card installed, the slot position of the RAID card will also need to be changed to accommodate the move of the ENC5400-4port from PCIe x4 to PCIe x16.

Before applying these updates make sure power is disconnected from the DSSRV. ESD safety must be followed throughout the procedure.
Remove the top Lid from the DSSRV unit by removing the eight screws on top of lid.
Make sure to wear an ESD strap before proceeding with further instruction .To remove the ENC5400-4port card from PCIe x 4 slot unscrew the cards by removing both screws .
Remove and replace the ENC5400-4PORT ribbon cable and replace it with the new cable. The figure below shows ENC5400-4PORT cards with the new ribbon cable.
Remove the metal filler brackets in front of the PCIe x16 slot and insert the ENC5400-4PORT card into PCIe x16 slot. Secure it with screws removed in Step 2 above.
If the unit has the DSSRV-RAID card installed, move the card from PCIe x16 slot to PCIe x4 slot. To remove the DSSRV-RAID card, remove the screw from the metal bracket and carefully pull and raise the RAID card. Move it to the PCIE x4 slot. The figure below shows the final positioning of RAID card and ENC5400-4PORT after swapping slots.
Put the lid back on the unit and secure it with the eight screws that were taken off in Step 1.
- Proceed with updating the software driver for ENC5416.
Installation of Digital Sentry Installer:
Turn on the DSSRV and log on to Windows. If you repositioned the DSSRV-RAID card while the unit was turned off (Step 5, above), you must wait for the RAID driver to completely install before continuing with this procedure.
Plug in the provided USB Recovery key into the DSSRV.
Locate the DS Installer folder and double click to open.
Locate the setup.exe application file and double click.
Run through the DS Installer application and choose the Automatic Setup.
Once completed, run through the DS Quick Setup Wizard.
When given prompts to install new drivers, please install them.
Once the DS Quick Setup Wizard is complete, reboot the DSSRV.
