Where is the global settings file located in Windows 7 for DS ControlPoint?

Environment

Cause

Deleting the global settings file due to corruption of the settings information contained therein causing random crashes on DS ControlPoint.

Resolution

Enable hidden folders in Windows 7

  1. In Windows 7 toolbar located next to the Start button click the Folder Icon
  2. In the upper left hand corner click Organize
  3. Click Folder and search options
  4. Click the View tab
  5. In the Advanced Settings: click Show hidden files, folders, and drives.
  6. Click Apply
  7. Click Ok

Deleting the Global ControlPointCache.xml file

  1. In Windows 7 toolbar located next to the Start button click the Folder Icon
  2. Click on Local Disk (C:)
  3. Double-Click on the ProgramData folder
  4. Double-Click on Pelco
  5. Delete the ControlPointCache.xml file

 

Locate and delete without enabling hidden folders

  1. Close the DS ControlPoint client if running.
  2. Click on Start > Search Bar and type in %programdata%
  3. Click on the Pelco folder
  4. Delete the ControlPointCache.xml file
  5. Open DS ControlPoint which will create a new file, add a new site.
