Environment

  • DS RealVue RAID
  • Areca RAID Card
  • iSTAR Cage

Cause

Mixed of hard drive brands and sizes.

Resolution

To Enter BIOS configuration utility and Password.

  • CTRL + F6 when prompted (just F6 works). 
  • Password = 0000 
  • F10 to exit and reboot.
     

Delete Array

  • Press F6 when prompted on boot.
  • When prompted: Select an adapter to configured - press ENTER.
  • RAID Set Function.
  • Delete Raid Set.
  • Select Raid Set (will also delete Volume Set).

 
Create Array

  • Press F6 when prompted on boot
  • When prompt : Select an adapter to configure - press ENTER
  • Quick Volume/Raid Setup
  • Select Raid type = RAID 5 or RAID 1 + 0
  • Select Capacity : XXXX *usable storage based off RAID selection.
  • Select Stripe Size : 64K
  • Create Vol/Raid Set
  • Foreground Initialization (The initialization status will display in the bottom bar).

 
Check Health of RAID

  • Press F6 when prompted on boot
  • When prompt : Select an adapter to configure - press ENTER
  • RAID Set Function
  • RAID Set Information
  • Select RAID Set 00 when prompted
  • Check the RAID STATE and Member Disk Channels.
    RAID State should  = Normal
    Member Disk Channels should = 1234
  • You can also view logged system events.
    Main menu - View System Event
     

Failed Hard Drive - RAID STATE = Degraded

  1. Press F6 when prompted on boot. 
  2. When prompted : Select an adapter to configure - press ENTER. 
  3. RAID Set Functions
  4. RAID Set Information 
  5. Select RAID Set 00 when prompted. Note: If two RAID Set 00 options are available, select the first one. 
  6. Check the RAID STATE and Member Disk Channels.
    • RAID STATE should = Degraded 
    • Member Disk Channels should = 12x4 (x= bad drive, can be any drive)
  7. If there was more then one RAID Set to select, delete the RAID Set which only has the single drive using the Delete Raid Set option...example: RAID SET 01 shows xx3x. 
  8. Replace the failed drive in the position indicated by the (x) in Raid Set Information - Member Disk Channels. 
  9. If the rebuild does not start automatically, while still in the RAID Bios turn off the drive using the power button on the iSTAR cage for that drive and then turn back on. You should see the rebuild status show up at the bottom of the screen in the grey area (very bottom). Advise the customer to wait until the drive is rebuilt before booting into the operating system.
     

RAID STATE = Incomplete

  • This usually means at least 2 drives are missing from the array, make sure all drives are installed and turned on in the iSTAR cage. 
  • In RAID Set Functions, select Activate Raid Set. 
  • This should now change the RAID STATE to either Normal or Degraded status. 
  • If Degraded, follow the "Failed Hard Drive" procedure. If Normal, just reboot the system normally.
     

Check hard drive detection

  • Physical Drives 
    • View Drive Information (lists model number/size and what RAID Set the drive is associated with)

       

Disable Beeper

  • RAID System Function
    • Mute The Alert Beeper
    • Alert Beeper Setting
      • Enable
      • Disable
