How to add a CM9760-SER-32 Port Expander to a CM9700-CC1 Central Processing Unit.

Issue

  • The CM9760-SER-32 is needed if more than 32 ports are required on the CM9700-CC1.

Cause

  • The following shows four different configuration procedures on adding a CM9760-SER-32 to the CM9760-CC1.

Resolution

Default Configuration (4 Sercom cards, 1 Rocket card, 64 ports).

  • For this configuration, IRQ’s 5,10,11,12 are used by the Sercom cards. IRQ 15 is used by the first rocket card that would be seated in PCI slot #2 if used. See Figure 1 below for slot assignments.

 

Configuration Two (4 Sercom cards, 2 Rocket cards, 96 ports, Com 2 not available).

For this configuration, IRQ’s 5,10,11,12 are used by the Sercom cards. IRQ 15 is used by the first rocket card that would be seated in PCI slot 2, and IRQ 3 is used by the second rocket card which is seated in PCI slot 3. See Figure 2 for slot assignments.

BIOS Configuration:

  1. Upon CM9700-CC1 boot up press the Delete key to enter the system BIOS.
  2. Enter password "pelcon" and press enter.
  3. Use the arrow key to scroll down to the PCI plug and play setup option and press enter.
  4. Scroll down to PCI slot 3 IRQ priority and change the setting from auto to 3 using the Page Down key.
  5. Press ESC and scroll down to Peripheral settings and press enter.
  6. Scroll down to Onboard serial port 2, use the Page Down key to change this setting to disabled.
  7. Press ESC and scroll to Save Settings and Exit and press enter. Answer "Y" when prompted.

 

Configuration Three (3 Sercom cards, 2 Rocket cards, 88 ports, Com 2 available).

  • For this configuration, IRQ’s 10,11,12 are used by the Sercom cards. IRQ 5 is used by the first rocket card which is seated in PCI slot 1, IRQ 15 is used by the second rocket card which is seated in PCI slot 2. See Figure 3 for slot assignments.

BIOS Configuration:

  1. Upon CM9700-CC1 boot up press the Delete key to enter the system BIOS.
  2. Enter password "pelcon" and press enter.
  3. Use the arrow key to scroll down to the PCI plug and play setup option and press enter.
  4. Scroll down to PCI slot 1 IRQ priority and change the setting from auto to 5 using the Page Down key.
  5. Change PCI slot 2 IRQ priority to 15, change PCI slot 3 IRQ priority to 3 and scroll down to IRQ 5 and change this setting to PCI/PnP.
  6. Press ESC and scroll to Save Settings and Exit and press enter. Answer "Y" when prompted.

 

Configuration Four (3 Sercom cards, 3Rocket cards, 120 ports, MAX configuration, Com 2 not available)

  • For this configuration, IRQ’s 10,11,12 are used by the Sercom cards. IRQ 5 is used by the first rocket card which is seated in PCI slot 1, IRQ 15 is used by the second rocket card which is seated in PCI slot 2, and IRQ 3 is used by the 3rd rocket card which is seated in PCI slot 3. See Figure 4 for slot assignments.

BIOS Configuration:

  1. Upon CM9700-CC1 boot up press the Delete key to enter the system BIOS.
  2. Enter password "pelcon" and press enter.
  3. Use the arrow key to scroll down to the PCI plug and play setup option and press enter.
  4. Scroll down to PCI slot 1 IRQ priority and change the setting from auto to 5 using the Page Down key.
  5. Change PCI slot 2 IRQ priority to 15, change PCI slot 3 IRQ priority to 3 and scroll down to IRQ 5 and change this setting to PCI/PnP.
  6. Press ESC and scroll down to Peripheral settings and press enter.
  7. Scroll down to Onboard serial port 2, use the Page Down key to change this setting to disabled.
  8. Press ESC and scroll to Save Settings and Exit and press enter. Answer "Y" when prompted.
