DS ControlPoint fails to launch/load.


DS ControlPoint fails to launch or displays not responding when launching application.

Problem with Visual Themes in Windows 7.


There are several methods to resolve this type of issue with DS ControlPoint failing to open:

  1. Method 1
    1. Verify that DS ControlPoint is not running in the background: Go to Start Menu > Type Task Manager (Under Control Panel > View Running process with Task Manager> Process tab > Locate DSControlPointS.exe *32 > End Process
    2. Right Click on the DS ControlPoint icon
    3. Go to Properties
    4. Click on Compatibility Tab
    5. Under Settings check Disable visual themes box
    6. Under Privilege Level check Run this program as an administrator
  2. Method 2
    1. Verify that DS ControlPoint is not running in the background: Go to Start Menu > Type Task Manager (Under Control Panel > View Running process with Task Manager) > Process tab > Locate DSControlPointS.exe *32 > End Process
    2. Go to the Run Menu (Press the Windows key and letter R at the same time
    3. Type %appdata% select ok
    4. Locate the Pelco folder
    5. Delete ControlPointCache (All systems listed and saved views for DS ControlPoint will be deleted and will need to be reconfigured)
    6. Close Window
  3. Method 3
    1. Uninstall the following from Programs and Features (Start > Search Bar and type in programs and features then press [ENTER])
      • DS ControlPoint
      • Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.17
    2. Navigate to ControlPanel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features On or OFF
    3. Uncheck or "Turn OFF" Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 (requires system restart)
    4. After the system reboot, re-enable Microsoft .NET Framewark 3.5.1
    5. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Pelco\ and delete the ControlPoint and Common Files folders.
    6. Delete the ControlPointCache.XML file (%appdata%/Pelco)
    7. Install DS ControlPoint.
  4. This can also happen if there is damage to the Windows 7 OS which may have resulted from something like a power outage, failed hard drive or other system stability problems.  If this is the case, a reimage or reinstallation of the Windows 7 operating system may be required to resolve.
