How do I change/update the computer name on a DSSRV NVR or DS NVs recorder?


What is the process for changing or updating the computer name on the DSSRV recorder.

The Computer Name required by the DSSRV recorder has changed and needs to be updated in the Windows and the software.


  1. Stop the DigitalSENTRY video services:

    1. Click on START and then type in services.msc and press [ENTER] (On DSSRV's running image version 7.4.320 or later, click START > Services icon in the startup menu.)
    2. Right-click and Stop the following services:
      • DigitalSENTRY WatchDog
      • DigitalSENTRY VideoServer Service
      • DigitalSENTRY Storage Service
    3. Minimize the Services window.

  2. Update the DS Admin configuration utility:

    1. Click on START > All Programs > Pelco > DS Admin
    2. Log in using an administrator user account (default = admin,admin)
    3. Click directly on the system name under Available Systems like a hyperlink, change the System Name field to the new computer name and click Save.
    4. Expand the VAU folder and click directly on the system name below like a hyperlink (computer icon.)
    5. Select the VAU Info tab in the right hand window.
    6. Update the VAU Computer Name with the new computer name planned for the system and click Save.
    7. Once the system has completed saving the new setting, close the DS Admin utility.

  3. Change the Computer Name in Windows

    1. Click START and type in rename this computer and press [ENTER]  (Alternate path - Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > Computer Name tab)
    2. Click the Change... button.
    3. Enter the new computer name information in the "Computer name:" field
    4. Click OK to save the computer name change.
    5. Click OK on the "You must restart your computer to apply these changes", and then Close on the next window.
    6. The last popup will give you an option to either "Restart Now" or "Restart Later", recommend restarting now to apply the changes.
    7. Will need to log back into Windows (default username: DSServiceUser password: dsserviceuser).
    8. The DS Rename utility will run when the desktop loads and update the SQL database with the new computer name information
    9. The rename process is now completed, verify live and playback video using DS ControlPoint to check the systems health.
