Convert DSSRV recorders from standalone to distributed (Enterprise DMS/VAU)

Issue

Have 5 DSSRV recorders which need to be reconfigured for 1 DMS with 4 VAU's.

Product Line

Pelco Video Management

Environment

  • DSSRV v7.2.46 - 7.8.91
  • DS NVs v7.2.46 - 7.8.91
  • DMS/VAU v7.2.46 - 7.8.91
  • Enterprise/Distributed v7.2.46 - 7.8.91

Cause

The process to configure standard DSSRV recorders in a distributed configuration is not documented in the user manual.

Resolution

As of Digital Sentry software version 7.8.90 and greater, distributed configurations are no longer supported

DSSRV/Digital Sentry recorders can be configured in a "Distributed" configuration, this means that if you have a total 5 DSSRV's; 1 of the DSSRV's (DMS) will house the SQL Server Service and Database while the other 4 DSSRV's (VAU) will house the DigitalSENTRY VideoServer Service.

All DSSRV's are shipped in a "Standalone" configuration; a process must be followed to change to a "Distributed" configuration.

DMS (Database Management Server):

  • SQL Server (DS_MSSQLSERVER) service
  • SQL Server Browser
  • IntegralSqlAgentService
  • DigitalSENTRY Storage Service

VAU (Video Acquisition Unit):

  • DigitalSENTRY VideoServer Service
  • DigitalSENTRY Watchdog Service
