The Reboot Command may not Work on Sarix Enhanced Series Cameras

Issue

Until now, customers have been able to reboot a camera through using either the reboot or the restart.sh commands. However, the reboot command does not work on Sarix Enhanced series cameras. In addition, the /sbin/restart.sh command does not work on Sarix Professional series cameras.

Environment

  • Sarix Enhanced (Maxwell) cameras, specifically, IXE and IME series cameras.
  • Sarix Professional cameras, specifically IXP, IBP, and IMP series cameras

Cause

The PATH variable does not include the /sbin directory. Further, the reboot command on a Sarix Enhanced camera only causes the camera to partially shut down.

Resolution

There are two possible solutions. If you are using a Sarix Enhanced series camera, simply type /sbin/restart.sh instead of the reboot command. If you are using a Sarix Professional series camera, continue to use the reboot command.

If those methods do not work, use these commands:

echo 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq
echo b > /proc/sysrq-trigger

The other work around is to use the Reboot camera button in the Web interface for the camera. (See the figure below.)
