Pelco Video Management

Environment

  • DS NVS v7.2.30 and higher
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows Domain Environment
  • Group Policy - FIPS

Cause

Missing DigitalSENTRY v4.0 registry key due to FIPS system cryptography being enabled by a Group Policy.

Resolution

Complete reload of Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system will need to be performed. Once completed the Digital Sentry can be reinstalled and configured before adding to a domain network.  Domain or group policies may effect the license key application such as FIPS Algorithm Policy which can be found in:

  • Windows Server 2008 and in Vista:
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\FIPSAlgorithmPolicy\Enabled

This registry value reflects the current FIPS setting. If this setting is enabled, the value is 1. If this setting is disabled, the value is 0.

  • This security setting affects the following registry value in Windows Server 2003 and in Windows XP:
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\FIPSAlgorithmPolicy

This registry value reflects the current FIPS setting. If this setting is enabled, the value is 1. If this setting is disabled, the value is 0.

Another option to check for FIPS Algorithm Policy being enabled is through the:

  • Local Security Policy
Security Options - System Cryptography - Enabled

Example of what the registry key entry should look like.

After reload of Windows Server 2008 R2 the Product ID now displays in the DS License Key Utility
