Configure Motion detection in Axis IP camera web interface


Using In-Camera motion detection with either a Digital Sentry or DX4700/DX4800 recorder.

The DX4700/DX4800 recorders require the Axis cameras web interface is configured for motion detection.  The Digital Sentry recorder when configured for "In-Camera" motion detection.



This article is based on an Axis P3354, other models may have different menus or options to configure Motion Detection.  Requires QuickTime for live viewing as well as the Axis plug-in for the detection configuration.

  1. Connect to the Axis IP camera by using the camera's IP address in a web browser.
  2. Login using the 'root' credentials.

  3. When the live view tries to display, may ask for another login.  Use the 'root' credentials again.

  4. If prompted to 'run' the Apple QuickTime player make sure to allow.
  5. Click on Setup > Detectors > Motion Detection.
  6. You will then be prompted to install the 'Axis Media Control' from 'Axis Communications AB'. 
    Install the plug-in.

    Note: Internet Explorer 11 requires the site be run in Compatibility Mode.

  7. The DefaultWindow will cover the entire scene, verify when motion is in the scene that the "Activity" histogram shows activity above the line and turns RED.  This indicates the camera is triggering motion detection.
