  • DSSRV2
  • ENC5400-4PORT
  • ENC5516

Coaxitron control is not working.

The DSSRV and ENC5516 support Extended coaxitron (32bit) with DS version of 7.7.309 or later.

Note: Do Not run the DigitalSentry Watchdog service. It is turned off and set to manual startup by default.  It is not necessary for server operation and can interfere with PTZ controls.

Note: When using Pelco D, No Parity RS-422 two wire and Coaxitron PTZ control the COM port may need to be changed. Coaxitron control uses Pelco D, No Parity in the PTZ drop down menu as its PTZ type and only support address 1-16. If using Pelco D, No Parity RS-422 two wire control, use the left COM port which will be the lower COM port number detected.

Locate the COM ports assigned to the ENC5516's

  1. Open Services (Start > Search Bar and type services > select the Services listed under the Programs results)
  2. Locate the DigitalSENTRY services, stop the following services if running.
    1. DigitalSENTRY WatchDog Service (usually not running so if set to Manual it is normal)
    2. DigitalSENTRY VideoServer Service
  3. Run the DS RealVue Diagnostics Tool (Start > All Programs > Pelco > DS RealVue Diagnostics Tool)
  4. The RealVue Diagnostics Tool will display what COM ports have been assigned to the ENC5516's attached to the DSSRV. The COM ports assignment will be listed to the left of the video window.
    • Board 1 and Board 2 = 1st ENC5516
    • Board 3 and Board 4 = 2nd ENC5516
    • Board 5 and Board 6 = 3rd ENC5516
    • Board 7 and Board 8 = 4th ENC5516
  5. Document the COM assignments for the attached ENC5516's.

  6. Close the RealVue Diagnostic tool.
  7. Restart the services that were stopped in Step 2.

Configure the Serial Port and PTZ control in DS Admin

  1. Open DS Admin (Start > All Programs > Pelco > DS Admin)
  2. Navigate Available Systems > VAU and then click on the system listed directly under the VAU folder like a hyper-link (do not expand but click on - hand icon).
  3. The VAU configuration tabs will be loaded in the right hand window, click on the Serial Ports tab.
  4. Add the COM ports that are assigned to the ENC5516's found in the RealVue Diagnostic Tool to the Assigned COM Ports. Note: Coaxitron typically will use the second com port listed in the RealvueDiagnostics tool, if the second com port listed does ot work try the first com port listed.
  5. Highlight the first COM port listed in Assigned COM Ports and then select the General tab.
  6. Change the Interface Type: to "PTZ" and the PTZ Type: to "Pelco D, No Parity", may need to click the "Get Types" button to populate a list of options.  Leave the rest of the options to defaults and then check the box for Active.

Note: For information on Digital Sentry PTZ Protocols, refer to article: What PTZ protocols does the Digital Sentry software support?

  7.  Click Save.
  8. Repeat steps 5 - 7 for each additional COM port listed in the Assigned COM Ports window.
  9. In order for the changes to the Serial Ports to take effect, the DigitalSENTRY VideoServer Service needs to be restarted.
    1. Open Services (Start > Search Bar and type services > select the Services listed under the Programs results)
    2. Locate the DigitalSENTRY VideoServer Service, right-click and select Restart.
  10. In DS Admin, expand the Cameras folder and select the PTZ camera in the list.
  11. The cameras configuration tabs will load on the right, click on the PTZ tab.
  12. Check the box next to Enable PTZ support for this camera
  13. Click the drop down menu under "Camera Connected to port" and select the COM port assigned to the ENC5516.  Select the "Available Address" which matches the camera's input number. (Example Camera connected to input 1 = address 1)

Note: With coaxitron control and the ENC5516 encoder, the PTZ address used is the input number on the specific ENC5516 and not total VAU input number.

A camera on the first input of the 3rd ENC5516 will show a VAU input number of  65, but when configuring for coaxitron PTZ you would use the COM port assigned to the 3rd ENC5516 with the PTZ address of 1.  If a camera is on input 5 of the 2nd ENC5516, the VAU input number would be 37 but you would use the PTZ address of 5 with the COM port assigned to the 2nd ENC5516.
  14. Click Save.
  15. Still in the PTZ tab, verify the "PTZ HUD On" is checked/enabled, then left-click drag the mouse pointer in the outer box in the HUD to PTZ the camera.  The center square controls zoom, the boxes on the right control Iris and Focus.

Note: If the PTZ camera does not move, verify that the COM port and camera are on the same ENC5516/Board or try the other COM port available in the "Camera Connected to port" drop down menu.  Another option to try is to reboot the DSSRV.
