Cause

DigitalSENTRY VideoServer Service will not start due to the SQL Server Service not in the Started state.

This can also be caused by a corrupt database or software issue.

Resolution

A reinstall of the DigitalSENTRY software or recovery is needed. Once the software has been reinstalled or the DS Recovery has completed you can import a backed up database, if you do not have a backed up database you will need to reconfigure the system from scratch.

Uninstall/Reinstall:

  1. Uninstall/Reinstall DS software
  2. Download latest version of the DS Installer Software (versions may differ per site basis) - https://www.pelco.com/video-management-solutions/digital-sentry-flexible-video-management#Asset%20Type!Software!11009/tab/documents
Note: DS 7.7.309 or later is not supported on Windows XP/Server 2003
  3. Document the license key by going to Start > Programs > Pelco > License Key Entry
  4. Once the download begins, start uninstalling all the DS and SQL software. Refer to How to completely uninstall Digital Sentry Software Suite.
  5. After the download completes and the uninstall process has completed reboot the DS system.
  6. Begin the reinstall of DS. Refer to How to install the Digital Sentry Software Suite on Digital Sentry HVR(s) and NVR(s).
  7. After the install has completed enter your license key.
  8. If needing to save recorded video go to DS Admin and create an Available System and VAU.
    1. After the inital install has been setup in DS Admin, close DS Admin.
    2. Start the DigitalSENTRY Services, DigitalSENTRY VideoServer Service and DigitalSENTRY Storage Service and set to Automatic.
    3. If you have an old backup, use DS Backup to import your database. Refer to How do I run DSBackup on the Digital Sentry DVR/HVR/NVS?
    4. If you do not have a backup, run DS QuickSetup and use the Add/Remove IP camera option, if using analog cameras - add cameras using DS Admin.
    5. After basic setup has completed run a rebuild to reassociate recorded video to your new database. Refer to How to perform a database rebuild in a Digital Sentry system?
  9. If recorded video is not needed run DS QuickSetup and reconfigure your system as needed.
  10. Verify live and playback of video using DS ControlPoint.
  11. After reconfiguring DS, stop the DS Video Server Service and run DS Backup. Copy the backup to multiple locations for future use. Refer to How do I run DSBackup on the Digital Sentry DVR/HVR/NVS?

DVD/USB recovery:

  1. Before running a recovery, gather the IP camera license key, hostname (computer name) and all IP address info.
    1. Document the license key by going to Start > Programs > Pelco > License Key Entry
    2. Document the hostname by going to Run and type cmd hit ok. Type hostname and hit enter.
    3. Document the IP address info by going to Run and type cmd hit ok. Type ipconfig /all and hit enter. Gather the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and DNS for both NIC ports.
    4. Begin recovery process:
    5. Once the Recovery completes start Windows.
    6. Configure the hostname and IP address info into the DS system.
    7. Import backup if possible, if not create a NEW system using DS QuickSetup (this will delete recorded video). If needing to save recorded video go to DS Admin and create an Available System and VAU.
    8. Start the DigitalSENTRY Services, DigitalSENTRY VideoServer Service and DigitalSENTRY Storage Service and set to Automatic.
    9. Launch DS QuickSetup to add IP cameras, if adding analog cameras use DS Admin.
