First time setup of a DSSRV as a recorder for VideoXpert

Your Digital Sentry system requires several additional services.  Run the service installers from your desktop as necessary to support your application. If installing multiple services, install them in order or as directed by the installation procedures below.

  • DSFrameServerService: exposes video streaming services over RTSP; required for integrations, video aggregation and Pelco Mobile.

  • DSPelcoAPI: exposes PelcoAPI services for integration purposes and provides support for Pelco Aggregation.

  • DSNSMRest: exposes functionality video timeline and thumbnails in VX.

If DS is not yet installed, perform the DS System Setup using the DSInstaller. The user may choose to install with the “Recording Software Only” option. This option will leave out DS ControlPoint as Ops Center and the Admin Portal will be used in its place when being used with VX.

  1. Use DS Quick Setup to configure your DS system. (For this portion you may reference the Digital Sentry Documentation.)

  2. Ensure the Video Server service is running.

  3. Ensure the cameras are recording and the settings match your requirements. This storage system also has the ability to record analog cameras. These cameras settings (as well as IP cameras settings) can be adjusted using the DS Admin application.

  4. In order to use DS as storage for VX, the gateway must be configured for unicast in / unicast out in order to view video.

  5. While DS supports motion record, VX requires continuous record to be used at this time.

  • The user will need to install DS Admin (If the application is not already installed) to modify the settings of cameras that have been installed on the DS system. DS Admin can be found in the DSInstaller installation package under the folder ISSetupPrerequisites\DSAdmin. Run the setup.exe to install.

  • Meinberg NTP is recommended to be used on your DS Server to keep the time synchronized between your DS Storage, Camera devices and VX systems. Time synchronization of your devices is crucial.

  • This can also be used for upgrades to existing Digital Sentry installs. If the user chooses to upgrade their systems for VX support, an existing DS user only needs to follow these instructions to add support.

  • DigitalSENTRY software version 7.10 is not compatible with Andover Continuum ver 1.94.  The last known working version of DigitalSENTRY with Andover Continuum is ver 7.9.

Pelco API Setup (for VX Integrations)

  1. Set the admin password to admin, otherwise these services may fail to install or will not work.

  2. Install the DSFrameServerService by running the Setup.msi from the folder. Upon successful installation, continue.

  1. Install the DSPelcoAPI also by running the Setup.msi in the DSPelcoAPI folder.

  2. Lastly, install the DSNSMRest Service by running the Setup.msi in the DSNSMRestService folder.

Ensure the following Service are running and match the settings in the below list:

  • DigitalSENTRY DSNSMRestService - Started - Automatic (Delayed Start)

  • DigitalSENTRY FrameServer Service - Started - Automatic (Delayed Start)

  • DigitalSENTRY PelcoAPI Service - Started - Automatic (Delayed Start)

  • DigitalSENTRY Storage Service - Started - Automatic

  • DigitalSENTRY VideoServer Service - Started - Automatic

  • IntegralSQLAgent Service - Started - Automatic

  • SQL Server (DS_MSSQLSERVER) - Started - Automatic

  • The PelcoAPI Service cannot start unless the FrameServer Service has been started.

The system is now ready to add to Video Xpert.

Adding systems to Video Xpert through Admin Portal

To add your Storage system to Video Xpert you will need to first know the IP address of you VX Core system. The Core system must also have a valid license or be within its grace period.

  1. Using a web browser, connect to the Admin Portal by entering the IP address of the Core system. Log-in by entering your username and password.

  2. Navigate to the Devices tab.

  3. You should see the devices that are available on your network, Look for your storage system. The naming convention is (“DS System Name” - “Camera Name”).

  4. You will want to commission all of the cameras you added to your storage box. You can locate them all by searching for the names as shown in step 3.

  5. You will also want to add your systems recorder. It will be shown like this (“DS System Name”- Recorder). The Type will also show as recorder.

  6. Once this is completed, you will now be able to view the cameras in the admin portal by selecting the Live tab. (This feature requires the installation of the Pelco Media Plug-in.)

  7. You may also view the cameras using the VX Ops Center application.

  • The user of this system must manage all camera settings for the DS Server using DS Admin or DS Quick Setup. This is because DS pushes settings to the camera. Any changes made in the webui of a camera without changing through DS Admin or Quick Setup will be overwritten.

  • The user cannot use the Storage tab from the Admin Portal to add or remove cameras from Storage. All changes to the recording schedules or cameras must be made using the DS Admin application on the DS Server. The user may also install this application on a remote PC for easier access.

Viewing Cameras through VX Ops Center

At this point, the user may view the cameras they have commissioned in the Ops Center application.

  1. Log-in to Ops Center.

  2. The user will see the cameras they have commissioned in the camera tree.

  3. Add the cameras to your live view.

  4. The user will now be able to view live and recorded video normally using the Ops Center application. PTZ and export is also supported.

*If audio is required from digital sentry, DS control point software will have to be in used on the Ops.

For detailed configuration of the Ops Center application please see the VideoXpert Ops Center documentation.
