VideoXpert: How to set a static IP on an Enhanced Decoder.

Issue

A static IP needs to be set on the Enhanced Decoder.

  • D10U (Dell 7040m/7050m)

Cause

DHCP is not available.

Resolution

Option #1: The Enhanced Decoder does not have an IP address but needs to be set static.

  1. Connect a VGA monitor and keyboard to the decoder.
  2. Press Ctrl+Alt+F2 
  3. Login decoder
  4. Password pelco
  5. Type sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces then press Enter
  6. Type pelco
  7. Depending on which Enhanced Decoder hardware you have, Add one of the following sets of information changing the IP, Netmask and Gateway to follow the networks IP scheme

    D09U(Dell 9020m):
    auto eth0
    iface eth0 inet static
    address 192.168.1.191
    netmask 255.255.255.0
    gateway 192.168.1.1
     
    D10U(Dell 7040m/7050m):
    auto enp0s31f6
    iface enp0s31f6 inet static
    address 192.168.1.191
    netmask 255.255.255.0
    gateway 192.168.1.1
     
  8. Press Ctrl + O (that is not a zero), then click Enter
  9. At the bottom of the screen you will see File Name to Write: /etc/network/interfaces.  When you see this prompt, press Enter
  10. Press Ctrl + X.  This will take you to a prompt.  Note:  The prompt will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.  If you do not see the prompt then adjust your monitor.
  11. Type sudo cp /etc/network/interfaces /b/etc/network/ then press Enter
  12. Type sudo reboot then press Enter.

Option #2: The Enhanced Decoder already has an IP address but needs to be set static.

  1. SSH into the Enhanced Decoder using Putty [Username: decoder Password: pelco]
  2. Edit the interfaces file using the below command.

    sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces

     

     
  3. Leave the existing lines,



     
  4. Depending on which Enhanced Decoder hardware you have, Add one of the following sets of information changing the IP, Netmask and Gateway to follow the networks IP scheme

    D09U(Dell 9020m):
    auto eth0
    iface eth0 inet static
    address 192.168.1.191
    netmask 255.255.255.0
    gateway 192.168.1.1

    D10U(Dell 7040m/7050m):
    auto enp0s31f6
    iface enp0s31f6 inet static
    address 192.168.1.191
    netmask 255.255.255.0
    gateway 192.168.1.1

  5.  
  6. Save using Ctrl + O (that is not a zero). then hit the enter key. to save then Ctrl + X.



     
  7. Type the following command and hit Enter

    sudo cp /etc/network/interfaces /b/etc/network/

  8. Type sudo reboot then hit the enter key.


     
  1. Type the following command: sudo cp /etc/network/interfaces /b/etc/network/
