How does the Network Storage feature work in the DX4700 / DX4800 (HD) models?

Backup to a network share.


The Network Storage option allows a video data backup to a network share using the "Backup" feature. This option works with backup only and does not allow for direct video recording to a network share.


  • An available network share location.
  • The IP address of the server which is hosting the network share.
  • The network share name.
  • User credentials (local user) with write access to the network share location.

Configure the Network Storage feature:

  1. On the DX recorder, login with the 'admin' user account and navigate to SETUP > Camera > Network Storage.
  2. Enable the Network Storage option and then enter the following information:

    - Host Name = IP address of the server hosting the share location.
    - Directory = Share name of the shared directory.
    User Name / Password = Username and password of a user with write access to the share location.

  3. Click the Test button after entering and saving the settings.

    Verify receive the response "Network Storage test completed successfully".   If you receive a failure message, verify the requirements listed above.

  4. Navigate to SETUP > System > Backup and select your desired schedule option, must at least be set to INSTANT in order to run a manual backup.  
    Device = Network Storage.

    Once the desired time range has been entered, click the Start Backup button to begin the backup.

  5. To see the backup progress, exit out of the Setup menu. On the live display screen there is a progress indicator in the tool bar at far left.

  6. A message will display when the backup is completed.
