Cause

  • Hard drive failure
  • Longer days of storage is needed

Resolution

The unit automatically detects and formats a newly installed HDD. The DVR/HVR also detects when an existing HDD is moved to a different SATA connector, and then it recovers the HDD.
After the unit starts, you are prompted to format the newly installed HDD or recover an existing HDD.HDDs that have not been moved to a different SATA connector are not recovered.

WARNING: Formatting an HDD deletes all data. Verify that the data is no longer needed before formatting an HDD.

DX4500/DX4600: FORMATTING/RECOVERING AN HDD

  1. On the front panel or remote control, press and hold the Power button until your hear a beep, and then release the button. After a few seconds, the DX4500/DX4600 startup screen appears.
  2. Wait until the DVR displays the “HDD configuration has been changed” dialog box.


     
  3. To format a newly installed HDD or recover an existing HDD that has been moved to a different SATA connector, click OK. The “Hard disk drive recovery in progress” dialog box appears. To cancel the formatting process, click Cancel.
  4. When the “Hard disk drive recovery complete” dialog box appears, click OK. The application window appears.

FORMATTING A NEWLY INSTALLED HDD

  1. To start the unit, press and hold the power button located on the front panel until your hear a beep. After a few seconds, the unit’s application window appears.
  2. Wait until the unit displays the “New hard disk drive found” dialog box.


     
  3. Click OK to format the newly installed HDDs. The “Hard disk drive recovery in progress” dialog box appears. After the recovery process is complete, the “HDD 2 is currently being formatted” dialog box appears.
  4. When the “Hard disk drive recovery complete” dialog box appears, click OK. The application window appears.

 

RECOVERING AN EXISTING HDD

  1. To start the unit, press and hold the power button located on the front panel until your hear a beep. After a few seconds, the unit’s application window appears.
  2. Wait until the unit displays the “HDD configuration has been changed” dialog box.


     
  3. Click OK to reconfigure the HDDs. The “Hard disk drive recovery in progress” dialog box appears.
  4. When the “Hard disk drive recovery complete” dialog box appears, click OK. The application window appears.
