Error when using the Gcm Device Manager to add an LCM to a G3 (Niagara) station running the tacGcm driver: Could not invoke the command 'New'. Illegal parent 'tacGcm:GcmNetwork' for child 'tacGcmLcmDevice'.

Receive an error when using the Gcm Device Manager  to add an LCM to a G3 (Niagara) station running the tacGcm driver:

Environment

ENC-520 licensed for the tacGcm driver.

Network 8000 LCM, on LCM bus under a GCM

Network 8000 GCM with LCM bus

Cause

Although the pull-down menu for the Gcm Device Manager has  entries for "New" LCM and stand-alone LCM, selecting them results in the error.

Resolution

Add the LcmDevice manually:

  1. Open the tacGcm palette.
  2. Expand the Devices folder and copy an LcmDevice.
  3. Paste the LcmDevice into an existing GcmDevice.

Configure the LcmDevice object to match the physical LCM controller  by setting the Panel and Network Number.
In the example shown below, the Panel = 11 (as set by the DIP switch on LCM), and Network Number =1.
